Understanding source, evidence, status and history
Updated
What each trust label and record status in Arrota means, and what it does not mean.
On this page
Every record in Arrota answers four questions: who stands behind it (source), what supports it (evidence), whether it is current (status), and what has happened to it (history).
Source: who checked the evidence
| Label | What it means |
|---|---|
| Issuer issued | The organisation created and issued the record directly through Arrota. |
| Issuer confirmed | The organisation reviewed evidence the individual supplied and confirmed the record. |
| Third-party verified | An independent verification provider performed the check. |
| Source matched | Arrota matched the document against the issuing organisation's source records. This is not an attestation by the organisation. |
| AI checked | AI read the document and matched the individual's name. The organisation that issued it has not confirmed it. |
| Self added | The individual uploaded it and no one else has confirmed it. |
AI checked is a useful check, but it is not issuer confirmation. Only the organisation named on a document can turn it into Issuer confirmed. See What AI Checked means.
Evidence: what supports the record
Files such as the letter, certificate or transcript are evidence. Arrota keeps the structured facts separate from the files. A record can be shared or checked without handing anyone the underlying document, and a record without a file still shows its facts.
Status: is the record current?
| Status | What it means |
|---|---|
| Active | The record is current. |
| Under review | Someone questioned its accuracy and the organisation is reviewing it. |
| Revoked | The organisation withdrew it. It stays on record rather than being deleted. |
| Expired | Its validity date has passed. |
A public credential page shows only Active or Expired. See What happens when a record is revoked or superseded?
History: what changed
Records keep an append-only history. When an organisation corrects a fact, the correction is added as an amendment and earlier events stay visible. Open any record in your Vault and look under History & provenance to see it.
