Public verification vs private sharing
Updated
Arrota keeps three decisions separate: what you display, who you share with, and what can be checked. Here is how they differ.

Three separate decisions
- Display: what appears on your public profile.
- Sharing: which records a specific person can see through a private link.
- Verification: whether a record's facts can be checked, and by whom.
Pinning a record to your profile never, on its own, lets a stranger verify it.
Your public profile
Your public profile shows the records you pin to it. Only records an organisation stands behind can be pinned: Issuer issued, Issuer confirmed or Third-party verified.
To pin one, open the record in your Vault and select Pin to Profile. Manage your username and profile details in Settings under Public profile.
Private sharing
A private link shows the records you choose to whoever holds the link, for seven days. See Share a record privately.
Public verification
Some records can be checked by anyone with the record's link, record ID or QR code: certifications, badges, awards, participation certificates and training records. The public page shows the record, who issued it and whether it is Active or Expired. See Verify a public credential.
Employment letters, education records such as degrees, licences, memberships and other sensitive records are protected. Opening their link shows only that the record is protected. To check one, a person must sign in with an account you authorised, or an organisation must run a formal verification that you approve. See How formal verification works.
